Universiti Malaya is proud to host the APRU Global Health Conference 2025, taking place from 28 to 31 October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in partnership with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). This flagship event will gather global experts to address pressing health challenges, climate change, and social equity under a single powerful theme: “Towards Planetary Health Equity: A Global Call for Shared Solutions.”
In line with the conference theme and our shared responsibility for planetary health, the organisers are launching the “Plant a Tree” campaign to offset the carbon footprint of conference travel.
A total of 120 native trees will be planted, including species such as Meranti Temak Nipis (Shorea roxburghii), Salam (Syzygium polyanthum), Kelak (Lophopetalum wallichii), Merawan Siput Jantan (Hopea spp.), Kamuning (Michelia champaca), and Tengek Burung (Ixora malaccensis or Fagraea fragrans).
These trees were specially selected by the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong, one of the region’s most respected authorities on forest biodiversity. The selection ensures that all trees are ecologically appropriate, climate-resilient, and capable of providing long-term carbon storage, shade, and habitat benefits. Importantly, the trees were generously donated by FRIM in support of Universiti Malaya’s efforts to promote environmental responsibility in global health.
We warmly invite all participants to join this effort:
By taking these steps, every delegate can amplify the impact of our collective action, turning this conference into a model of sustainable global health collaboration.
The tree‑planting campaign is more than symbolic; it directly mitigates carbon emissions from travel, restores ecosystems, and fosters a culture of shared stewardship for the planet. Officiated by the Minister of Health Malaysia, the APRU Global Health Conference 2025 will not only showcase innovation in health but also set a new standard for environmentally responsible events in the region.
Together, let us protect both people and the planet by transforming ideas into tangible action.
