About the Elective Programme

Thank you for your interest in spending your elective period with us at the Faculty of Medicine (FOM), University Malaya (UM), MALAYSIA. The Elective Programme consists of a clinical placement with the posting/s of your choice. You will be given an observer status where you will experience (alongside our own students) the everyday management of patients under our care.

You will be given the opportunity to join the teaching and learning activities of our MBBS programme during the period of your elective. You may be expected to attend lectures and tutorials as well.  A supervisor will be appointed to you to evaluate your performance during your elective placement and to ensure your general well‐being.

English is the medium of instructions for our MBBS programme and is used during all teaching and learning sessions. However, Malaysian patients are a mixture of different races and may speak English, Bahasa Malaysia (the National Language), Mandarin (and many different Chinese dialects), Tamil and Hindi.   Clinical Elective Postings
