Otorhinolaryngology is the branch of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, as well as head and neck disorders. A more commonly used term for this specialty is ENT (ear, nose and throat).
Graduates in this discipline are exposed to the technical theories as well as the practical knowledge relevant to the discipline via the comprehensive syllabus and rotational postings in Oral-Maxilla-facial Surgery, Neuron-surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as undertaking a research project in the field of Otorhinolaryngology.
The following are the programme educational objectives (PEO). Upon three to five years of graduation, graduates will be able to become:
1. Expert practitioners in Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery who are highly-trained and demonstrate the ability to integrate basic knowledge of science to solve problems in clinical and operative aspects of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. |
2. Expert practitioners who can contribute effectively to the delivery of national health services by adhering to the principles of ethics, communication, professionalism, and social responsibility. |
3. Expert practitioners who are committed to continuous professional learning and skills advancement through professional growth and development opportunities provided by participation in professional societies and forming lifelong learning cultures. |
The following are the programme learning outcomes (PLO). Upon graduation, graduates will be able to:
1. Use advanced knowledge and the principles and concepts of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery for patient care that is safe, effective and efficient. |
2. Conduct surgery in Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. |
3. Adopt social skills and responsibilities in the conduct of clinical tasks in the field of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. |
4. Demonstrate high professional values, attitudes, and ethics in handling clinical responsibilities in the field of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. |
5. Communicate and interact effectively, display leadership skills and be able to work as a team with all levels of staff, including hospital management and patients. |
6. Critically analyze and conduct scientific research to solve problems related to services in Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. |

Stage I comprising -(2) No candidate shall be permitted to proceed to Stage II of the programme of study unless he has passed or been exempted from the Part I Examination.

A non-Malaysian applicant whose degree is from a university or institution of higher learning where the medium of instruction for that degree is not the English language shall be required:
(1) Entry qualifications
The degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of the University or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate; and
At least one year of post-full registration clinical experience approved by the Senate. (Priority to candidate’s who has completed six (6) months in General Surgery as a Medical Officer after the internship training in any government hospitals).
(2) Other requirements
Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia; and
Satisfies the Department responsible for the candidate’s programme of study in an Entrance Evaluation recognised by the Faculty.
Once a year in the month of June.
