Obstetrics and gynaecology is a diverse discipline on the study of women and their medical problems. The scope of study range from general gynaecological disorders, infertility, gynaecological malignancies and menopause. It also include obstetrics condition such as antenatal care, medical disorders in pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis and care, intrapartum and delivery care, postpartum and contraceptive care. At the end of the successful completion of the programme, the candidate should have attained the minimum standard to be a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology.
The programme provide for opportunities to learn all the related and relevant medical, surgical and obstetric knowledge and skills needed to prevent, identify and treat a whole range of medical conditions affecting women's reproductive system and gynaecological health. Besides providing clinical care using both normal and complex obstetrics and gynaecology approaches, experts in this field can greatly contribute to the research and growth of this discipline.(1) The programme of study comprises of two stages as follows:
(2) A candidate is required to pass Part I Master of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Degree prior to Advancement to Stage II of the programme.
(3) Candidate may undertake a maximum of six (6) months of elective training in a relevant discipline within/ outside department as approved by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya.
A non-Malaysian applicant whose degree is from a university or institution of higher learning where the medium of instruction for that degree is not the English language and where the applicant wishes to follow a programme shall be required:
