The commitment of the staff of the Faculty of Medicine are to provide the highest quality in education, health care, research and administration. The Faculty's strategic goal in research is to become the most effective health related research centre in Malaysia
   

The current ongoing research project are and are often challenging and complex because of the variation in the pattern of disease among the several ethnic groups in Malaysia. The different social, dietetic and cultural patterns form important aspects of studies planned by some of the Departments in the Faculty. Some of the identified thrust areas of research in the Faculty are Oncology (nasopharyngeal carcinoma, childhood and adult haematological malignancies) Infectious Diseases (AIDS, Dengue, EBV Associated Diseases) and Clinical Pharmacology.

   
Research in the Faculty is co-ordinated by a Medical Centre Research Committee, which is aided in its activities by committees such as the Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) and the Medical Ethics Committee
   
Funds for research are largely derived from grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology and Environment, as well as local University funds.
